Summerslam 2001 Review

Another show, another MOTYC.

Edge defeated Lance Storm to win the WWF Intercontinental Championship (11:16)
Edge pinned Storm after an Edgecution.
Near the end of the match, Christian interfered to help Edge but accidentally Speared Edge and after that, was superkicked by Storm.
***
Good little opener.

The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) and Test defeated The APA (Faarooq and Bradshaw) and Spike Dudley (w/Molly Holly) (7:19)
Test pinned Bradshaw after Shane McMahon interfered and hit Bradshaw with a steel chair.
**
Short and to the point.

X-Pac defeated Tajiri to win the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship (7:33)
X-Pac pinned Tajiri after a X-Factor.
Near the near end of the match, Albert came down to the ring to distract Tajiri so Tajiri spit red mist into Albert's face.
**3/4
Nice little match.

Chris Jericho defeated Rhyno (12:34)
Jericho forced Rhyno to submit with the Walls of Jericho.
**3/4
Another nice match. Jericho botched a couple moves bad in here.

Rob Van Dam defeated Jeff Hardy in a Ladder match to win the WWF Hardcore Championship (16:33)
RVD won the match by retrieving the belt.
***1/2
Not as good as Invasion but close. Just typical RVD ladder match here.

The Brothers of Destruction (The Undertaker and Kane) defeated Diamond Dallas Page and Kanyon in a Steel cage match to win the WWF Tag Team Championship (10:13)
Kane and Undertaker pinned Page after a Last Ride.
½*
Squash cage match.

Kurt Angle defeated WWF Champion Steve Austin by disqualification (22:30)
Austin was disqualified by referee Nick Patrick after he attacked every referee that he saw. As a result, Austin retained the title.
****3/4
Oh man was this awesome. I know a lot of people hate DQ finishes, but I think it fits great here. Austin could not beat Angle, so he took the cheap heel way out. Angle comes off looking like Superman and Austin keeps the strap.

The Rock defeated Booker T (w/Shane McMahon) to win the WCW Championship (15:19)
Rock pinned Booker after a Rock Bottom.
During the match, The APA chased Shane McMahon out from ringside.
**3/4
Another good little match.

~ Awesome show. Only 1 **** match on here but it was a great one. Lots of **1/2 matches and up here.
