Backlash 2000 Review

One of the best PPVs ever in many eyes.

Edge and Christian defeated Road Dogg and X-Pac to retain the WWF Tag Team Championships (9:23)
Christian pinned X-Pac after hitting him with the ring bell.

Perfect match to start off the show. E&C were just starting to break away from being the "other team in the No Mercy Ladder match" and everyone was working hard.

Dean Malenko defeated Scotty 2 Hotty to retain the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship (12:59)
Malenko pinned Scotty after a DDT from the top rope.
****
Easily the best lightheavyweight title match ever. One of my favorite finishes ever too. Just came out of no where.

The Big Boss Man and Bull Buchanan defeated The Acolytes (Faarooq and Bradshaw) (7:41)
Buchanan pinned Bradshaw after a scissors kick from off the top rope.

There is a little crap on this show so just bite down and take it.

Crash Holly defeated Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Hardcore Holly, Perry Saturn and Tazz in a six man Hardcore match to retain the WWF Hardcore Championship (12:20)
Crash pinned Tazz after Saturn hit Tazz with a stop sign.

More goofy hardcore fun continued for Mania.

The Big Show defeated Kurt Angle (2:57)
Big Show pinned Angle after a chokeslam
Big Show was dressed as Hulk Hogan during this match as part of his gimmick in which he would dress up as former professional wrestlers. He used various Hogan signatures including his patented leg drop.

Holy shit was this hilarious at the time. Still pretty funny today. The match sucked but who really cares?

T & A (Test and Albert) (w/Trish Stratus) defeated The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) (11:04)
Test pinned Bubba Ray after a big boot.
After the match The Dudley Boyz powerbombed Trish through a table.

The shit is over after this match.

Eddie Guerrero (w/Chyna) defeated Essa Rios (w/Lita) to retain the WWF European Championship (8:43)
Guerrero pinned Rios after a Neckbreaker.
After the match, Lita stripped Chyna of her dress.

I wish they could have had more time. This was still really good. I love the Moonsault spot onto the table.

Chris Benoit defeated Chris Jericho by disqualification to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship (15:08)
Jericho was disqualified after he hit Benoit with the IC Title belt.

Very close to being ****. I originally had it at that but not everthing clicked.

The Rock defeated Triple H (w/Shane McMahon as special referee) to win the WWF Championship (19:24)
Rock pinned Triple H after a Spinebuster and People's Elbow.
Steve Austin returned to the WWF for the first time since the 1999 Survivor Series, delivering chairshots to Triple H, Shane McMahon, Vince McMahon, Pat Patterson, and Gerald Brisco.

Great stuff, although I don't rate it as high as others.

~ One of the best shows the WWF had ever done to most people. Hard to argue with a *** match and 5 matches ranging from ***1/2 to ****. A must see event.
