So this is why people drink...

I have yet to talk about the Rockets on this blog. I've wanted to but I usually forget. I have followed nearly all of their games this year and this seems like a cruel joke. It's like it set up perfectly. They win 12 IN A ROW, and then their best player randomly injured himself and is gone. I didn't even know he was hurt! In the last game, sure he sucked, but I just chalked it up to one of those games, ya know? I allowed my pessimistic self to start believing in the team I thought was dead. I thought, "Hey, the Giants won the Superbowl out of no where, why can't the Rockets?" Little did I know that once those words ran through my mind, Yao's leg was destined to snap.

Goodbye Edgar my old friend...

So Edgar Renteria was traded yesterday. Can't say that's the suprising news, as I thought he might be traded for a proven pitcher this offseason. Well, he got traded for 2 prospects...and not even good ones. Edgar comes cheap (thanks to Boston paying a solid chunk of his contract) and he is so damn consistant it's not even funny. These 2 guys the Braves got back might be OK (that's not a compliment). The pitcher is projeted to be a #3 starter at best throughout his career, and the the OF is the #10 CF prospect in baseball. Of course, the Braves have a CF prospect higher than that, but whatever.

I've never been on the Yunel Escobar bandwagon. He was incredble last year, but I've seen one year of magic from players before, so I'm not put him in the Hall yet. I hope he is great, but with Edgar, you WILL get great. If they would have traded him for a proven pitcher and not some kid with a 4 and a half ERA, I might be a little more excited, but eh. I hope this works out.

The 2-0 Houston Texans

Wow. I never thought I would ever say that. Is that sad? It's really wierd watching this team do well. I'm used to using them as a punchline and then crying when no one's around. But low and behold, The Texans are 2-0. It's strange to be watching the games and to be thinking, "We could win this game." It's also good to be cheering for once. I'm usually laughing at Carr running around like an idiot and then taking an ass kicking from a lineman. It is REALLY wierd to see the shmucks on ESPN actually talking positive about the Texans instead of talking about how Reggie Bush and Vince Young were gonna haunt the Texans forever. OK guys, we get it. Management screwed up for the first year. Let's not put both guys in the HOF yet. Let's give a guy who was thought to go number 2 a bit of a chance.

Man, if only Andre Johnson was playing this Week against the Colts, I would be drooling over that one. I mean a chance to be 3-0 and in sole position of 1st place? Wow. Just wow. Oh well. I'm a Texans fan, I think negative...I don't know...all the time? I just have to say if Schaub can find a way to win the game against the defending SuperBowl champs with Kevin Walter as his #1 receiver, I'll put him in the Texans HOF forever.

2007 NFL Predictions

OK. With the new season starting tonight, I feel I need to get this out of the way. The number in ( ) is the seed of the team come playoff time.

NFC

Philadelphia (4) – 10-6
Dallas (5) – 10-6
New York – 6-10
Washington – 5-11
Picking a winner here was tough. I went with Philly for no reason other than the Cowboys always lose Division leads.

Chicago (2) – 11-5
Minnesota – 7-9
Green Bay – 6-10
Detroit – 5-11
Mediocre division = Chicago gets 11 wins.

New Orleans (1) - 13-3
Carolina (6) – 9-7
Tampa Bay – 5-11
Atlanta – 4-12
The Saints are the sexy pick this year in the NFC. I think they'll have the best record and all, but I don't know about the playoffs.

Seattle (3) – 10-6
St. Louis – 9-7
San Francisco – 8-8
Arizona – 5-11
Seattle is boring but they get the job done.

I thought about going 14-2 with New England but injuries and upsets happen. They are the clear class of the division and AFC.

I really like Baltimore this year. The Bengals were my Superbowl pick last year (doh!). I still like them to get in the playoffs though.

I think Indy is as bad as they have been in years. They lost their nose tackle, left guard, both corners, Cato June, and Brandon Stokley and Dominic Rhodes. In this division though, they can survive.

San Diego speaks for themselves. I really like Denver as a sleeper this year.

First post about the Braves

Braves got murdered by the Giants today. Just wanted to say that from what I've seen (which hasn't been much. Damn Suddenlink Cable and TBS) they don't really look like a playoff team. They can't get runners in from 3rd w/less than 2 outs. They give up multi-run HRs. Their 3-4-5 starters are shit. And yet they are still only 1.5 games out of the WC. Crazy. They need to start beating good teams and sweeping bad teams to reach October (which according to Dane Cook, there is only one). May sound simple, but that's all they need to do. I could not really care less how they get in. Whether it be Division title or Wild Card. I always hear the announcers talk about the Mets winning or whateer. They need to stop scoreboard watching and start winning games.
