Armageddon 2008 Review

Kozlov vs. Matt Hardy - **1/4
Suprisingly good. Hardy is pretty great with big monster type guys. He had a really good match with Henry at No Mercy and now he gives Kozlov a match to be proud of.

CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio - ***1/2
Awesome. Much better than I was expecting. I probably could go ***3/4 but I think I'll stick with this. I'm glad these guys got a PPV match as opposed to a Raw match. Too bad the crowd was pretty much dead throughout. Sick G2S btw. My favorite match of the night but id you look in my avy you'll see why. Punk's best PPV match excluding MITB and his 2nd best match in the WWE overall behind his ECW title win.

I know this is just me being paranoid but I really hope they're not building to HBK/JBL at Mania.

Finlay vs. Henry - *1/2
Not really a fan of the plunder matches. Nothing really stood out in this match for me so I'll just leave it at that.

Orton vs. Batista - **3/4
A tad slow for my liking but that's Orton's character now. I loved the set up of the Batista Bomb that won the match. A little dissapointing for me but I think they'll have a rematch down the line that'll be better.

Santa's Little Helper match - *
Bleh. Just on the show for filler. Maryse has some great heel qualities. Maybe one of the best natural heel divas I've ever seen. I get more and more impressed with her as time goes on.

Cena vs. Jericho - ***3/4
Such awesome chemistry between these guys. Sadly, I don't think they'll have another PPV match anytime soon but I really hope they let these two have a Raw main event or something. I liked Survivor Series a little more but this still rocked the house down. This match was probably better wrestled but the story of Survivor Series is what puts it over the top for me. Interested to see where Cena goes from here since Orton lost.

HHH vs. Edge vs. Hardy - ****
I'll say this, the WWE knows how to build a dramatic match. I never thought Hardy had a shot at winning the title until I saw his match with HHH at Cyber Sunday. That match made me a believer that the E was gonna put that title on him somewhere down the line. I figured it would happen at Mania but I was obviously wrong. I'm far from a Hardy mark but towards the end of the match I was even marking out a little. Part of it was because I was wondering if this would be the time for Christian to make his return. I mean, I knew deep down that it wouldn't happen but I thought there was slim chance. Awesome Doomsday Device/Whisper in the Wind spot. I liked how Hardy kept going to the top rope and kept getting hit off. I thought they were booking him as a guy who gets so close to winning but in the end always comes up short. I also liked how the announcers shut up and let Hardy have his moment. Made it feel a little more special. I don't see him holding the belt til Houston so I'm also intrigued as to how he loses it.

One of the best WWE PPVs of the year imo. Fun - great undercard and important main event that delivered.

TNA Final Resolution 2008 (2) Review

Feast or Fired - ***
Suprising at a glance, but when you think about it, this match had a lot of great talent in it (MCMG, Dutt, Lethal, LAX, even Curryman and Rave to a very small extent). Perfect spotfest opener for the show. Can't wait for Daniels to return.

ODB/Roxxi/Wilde vs Love/Sky/Sharmell - *1/2
Perfectly acceptable for what the match was. Sharmell stayed on the ring apron while the BP did their heel routine. Total filler but not bad.

Young vs Bashir - **1/4
Simple enough match and I'm glad to see the title off Bashir. This ref angle is damn stupid though. I hope it doesn't lead to a Bashir vs. Angry Ref match next month. I hate seeing X-Division matches only getting in the **'s, but I've sadly almost given up on seeing all time classic title matches anymore.

Hemme vs Kong - *1/4
I was expected DUD territory so this blew me away. I haven't seen much of Hemme since she left the E but she's gottne much better. One of the best crossbody blocks to the outside I've seen in a while. I'm suprised they booked Kong so weak, though. She probably should have kicked out of the FFG and gone on to win, but I guess this sets up a rematch next month.

Beer Money vs Abyss/Morgan - **
Not bad but totally forgetable. A little too much stalling in the beginning hurt the overall flow of the match for me. Storm is a great heel though, I'll say that.

Angle vs Rhino - ***
Felt like a good iMPACT main event. The result of the match was never in doubt but Angle is on fire this year and if you give him anyone solid in the ring and give him time he can hit *** almost 100%. Jarrett/Angle II should own and I'm counting the days until that one. I guess after Jarrett, we'll see Angle/Foley at AAO or DX. Curious to see how that pans out.

Main Event Mafia vs Front Line - ***1/4
Another good iMPACT main event with a much hotter crowd than the last match. Totally there for storyline progression which is fine, but I don't think that sells PPVs. Joe should never be face in peril imo. I mean, he did a nice job but I think AJ would have taken a better beating, while Joe could have been the hot tag and started destroying bitches. I also want to note that Sting looked very awkward at taking bumps towards the end of this match. Not sure if he's been doing this lately but it was sad to watch. I was in to the end sequence when out of no where, Scorpian Death Drop, 1-2-3. Weird that Joe took the pinfall with Tean 3D on his team.

I said after the last PPV that TNA was on a roll and the haters should probably accept it...well, the roll has come to a stop. Wasn't God awful or anything but definitely not up to par with their last 2 shows. 2nd worse show of the year ahead of Sacrifice. That's 2 December PPVs in a row that haven't been strong, althhough last year's was much worse.

BTW, Suicide's zip line should be called the Suicide Hotline.

2008 Survivor Series Review

Team HBK vs. Team JBL - ***
Fun match. Loved the Morrison/HBK stuff. Hope they have a 1 on 1 match soon.

RAW Divas vs. SmackDown Divas - *
Standard stuff. LOL at the falls taking place so quickly within the match.

Taker vs. Show - **
Really dissapointing. They almost looked lost at points. Apparently Big Show's ride on his daddy's [/Bossman] casket in 99 has left him traumatized of them.

Team Orton vs. Team Batista - ***
A tad better than the opener imo. Batista ownin' bitchez should happen more often. I'm starting to dig Orton's character.

HHH vs. Kozlov - **3/4
I actually didn't think this was so bad before the ending. Appears I'm the only one. Looks like the WWE Title match at Mania is starting to take shape.

Cena vs. Jericho - ****
Just hits 4 here. Simple enough story executed well by both guys. Couple spots I loved: Cena goes for his tope rope leg drop and panics and the Liontamer returing (loved that last one).

More solid-ness from the E.

TNA Turning Point 2008 Review

X Division Rankings match - ***1/4
Good opener. Glad to see them give Tanahashi some time to shine. I'm suprised at who won this, but I guess he has been getting pushed seriously as of late.

Wilde/Roxxi vs. Kong/Saeed - **1/4
Solid stuff here. Nothing to write home about, though.

Rhyno vs. Bashir - *
Pretty bad. I'm sure ICP and "Hey Yo" *drunked slur* coming out didn't help matters, as both guys seemed distracted. Felt like an iMPACT match that told no real story.

Beer Money vs. MCMG (TNA Tag Titles) - ****
This on the other hand rocked my world. I'm a sucker for a great tag formula and this was definately that. Even Hall and ICP were marking out, but that may been because Hall spotted the beer guy on the other side of the arena. I could almost go 1/4* higher but I felt they went off the path from the story they were telling earlier in the match and I thought towards the end it went into slight overkill. Still the best mainstream tag match of the year for me. MCMG own and are probably the best team in the country if not the world. MOTN, btw.

Booker T vs. Christian (TNA Legends Title) - **1/4
Also felt like an iMPACT match. Not a lot stuck out but it wasn't horrible or anything. Obviously could have been better but these 2 have never had great chemistry dating all the way back to their 2003 matches over the IC title in the WWE.

Angle vs. Abyss (Falls Count Anywhere) - ****
If I take away one thing from this PPV, it's this...Kurt Angle...is out of his mind...like, legitimatly... Best Abyss match I've seen since the AJ Styles matches in 05, but that's no suprise considering Kurt has been God this year.

Joe vs. Nash - ***1/2
Now this suprised me immensely. I've heard a lot of people say that Joe looked weak in this but I really have no clue what they're talking about. He got rammed into the exposed turnbuckle multiple times, got hit with a chair in the face, bled, and kicked out of 2 powerbombs before losing to a low blow and Nash with his feet on the ropes. Some people were mad that Nash went over, but let's face it, Nash needed to go over. All of the MEM did. That's face faction/heel faction booking 101. The heels need to establish that they are a force to be reckond with, possibly have some of the faces turn on the others to align themselves with the heels down the road, and in the end the faces go over (Lethal Lockdown probably). The match itself was great, btw. Probably the best Nash match in a decade off the top of my head.

Sting vs. Styles (TNA Title) - ***
While this was good, I felt it could have been better. I never really believed that AJ had a chance. It felt like a filler title match, which it was, but it was still good for what they were going for.

Overall a great show. At least the 2nd best TNA PPV this year behind BFG. All the haters need to open their eyes, TNA is on a roll and there's no end in sight.

WWE Cyber Sunday 2008 Review

Rey vs. Kane - **1/2
Did what it needed to do. Never would have guessed Rey goes over.

Hardy vs. Bourne - ***1/4
Suprised they clicked so well in their first meeting.

Miz/Morrison vs. Cryme Tyme - **3/4
Another match I rate a lot higher than most, but I'm a sucker for a tag formula that works well.

Santino vs. HTM - DUD
At least it was....short...I guess?

Taker vs. Big Show - ***1/4
Maybe higher. I REALLY need to rewatch their NM match as I gave it like **1/4 as opposed to everyone else giving it ***+.

HHH vs. Hardy - ****1/4
Really loved this match. Totally about to overrate it here. In fact, I liked it MORE than their No Mercy match earlier in the month (****). Story in my eyes is all about the fact that Hardy is just a guy who gets by on ability and HHH gets by through his intelligence.

Jeff came into the match with the same formula he always has (ie: jump off shit). When they mat wrestle in the beginning, HHH just bides his time until Hardy goes to said formula and HHH pushes him off the turnbuckle. You see, HHH, who was taken to the limit 3 weeks prior, didn’t take Hardy for granted this time. He knew Hardy was going to get the vote (as pointed out by the announcers), so he watched a ton of tape to counter every….little…thing that Hardy had in his arsenal. Examples include:

Whisper in the Wind --> pushed off the top rope
Corner Dropkick --> Spinebuster
Crossbody off the middle rope --> Crippler Crossface
Twist of Fate --> pushed into turnbuckle which then leads to Pedigree attempt

Hardy then started to ever so slightly deviate his formula as he starts to hit the offense that HHH countered beforehand. When he finally hit the Whisper in the Wind, he then attempted and hit it a second time. This is paid off later. Hardy gets on a roll, so HHH tries the sleeper to slow him down, but Jeff can’t be stopped. The payoff of the double Whisper in the Wind goes down when Jeff hits the Swanton, then gets greedy and goes for it again only for HHH to adapt to the change in “style” and get the knees up. Hardy still won’t go down and starts playing to the crowd that voted him in as he goes up for another Swanton, but HHH has seen more than enough of that and Hardy gets pulled off the top and eats Pedigree. I really enjoyed the ending and I’m really glad Kozloff didn’t interfere as everyone one on the net predicted.

There weren’t many things I didn’t like about the match, but there were some. Hardy was a bit sloppy with some of his offense. Also when Hardy was in the Crossface, he looked not so much in pain as he did “mildly annoyed.” Another is when HHH put the steps back up after getting rammed into them so Hardy could do his awesome Poetry-in-Motion-on-the-outside spot. Clean a few of these things up and the rating would have been a little higher.

Incredible match all in all. I can’t really stand HHH as a face and I have not been a fan of his title run so far but his feud with Jeff has breathed new life into it for me. These two have so much chemistry it’s crazy. For the first time I truly buy Hardy as a threat to the title (even though HHH kind of schooled him here). I’m not a fan of Hardy either but I was actually marking for the guy towards the end. I thought there was a slight chance he’d get that day in the sun but it was not to be yet. The rating I’m giving it is the highest I’ve seen for it, but I really don’t care about the consensus anyway.

Batista vs. Y2J - **1/2
The first half kind of bored me. Batista matches tend to either be really awesome or really bleh to me. Picked up nicely towards the end. Probably the most I've ever liked ref bumps with Shawn and Orton taking control. Never would have guessed big Dave would go over here since Jericho has been booked like he was going to win if you follow the standard formula of heel gets ass kicked for weeks leading up to the match, where he retains in a slimey fashion.

Another good WWE PPV. All things considered I'd say they're my easy promotion of the year. First time I can say that about WWE in many years. Feels great to type as I will always be a WWE mark first.

WWE No Mercy 2008 Review

Matt Hardy vs. Mark Henry (ECW Title) - **1/4
Suprisingly good. They told a nice story with Matt working the leg much of the match. Ending paid off to the leg work. I havent seen their other match on ECW that was said to be solid, but this is probably the best 1 on 1 Henry match ever.

Beth Phoenix vs. Candice Michelle - *
Raw match. Nothing special. At least Candice didn't break anything.

Big Show vs. Undertaker - **1/4
I'm not a fan of either guy but both did their job well in this match. I guess there'll be a rematch at Cyber Sunday with a stipulation.

HHH vs. Jeff Hardy (WWE Title) - ****
Awesome stuff as expected. When both guys are motivated great things happen. I actually liked the ending. Too bad next month will probably have Kozlov in the mix. Hopefully they get a TV rematch that's just as awesome where I'm sure Kozlov interferes leading to the 3 way.

Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels (World Title Ladder Match) - ****1/4
Also as expected, this was great. Match just cracks ****1/4 here. Not as good as Edge/Taker HIAC but close (Also ****1/4). I hated the interference from Cade. I also wasn't a fan of the way the match started out. They hate each other so much, and then they mat wrestle? YOU PUNCHED MY WIFE IN THE FACE AND TRIED TO BLIND ME!!! EAT THIS HEADLOCK!!! Everything after that was awesome. The tug of war spot was indeed sweet. Probably the best ending to a ladder match in recent memory...maybe ever.

Another decent show. Reminds me of Night of Champions with 2 great main events and not much else.

Awesome compilation featuring 6 matches at **** or higher. Also featured rare iMPACT matches and while they were squashes, they were fun. The Unbreakable match is still ***** to me. Everything looked so good here as all 3 workers were on their game. Truly the definition of the X-Division (much like Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero at Halloween Havoc was the defining match of the WCW Cruiserweight division) The AJ matches blew away anything I ever saw the two do against each other in ROH. The Turning Point match is the 3rd best match in the company's history imo behind only the Unbreakable match and the Turning Point Cage match featuring Triple X and AMW from a year prior. Joe was booked like a God throughout this DVD. Really makes me miss him this way but I guess not everything can stay the same.

A must buy for anyone who even like Joe.

The Cage match with XXX vs. AMW was incredible (as I had heard) When I saw it getting ***** from a lot of people I didn't know if it could live up to the hype. Needless to say it did. It is currently the greatest tag match I've ever seen in any promotion. If a couple more things went right I would have given it *****, like the awkward tower of doom spot, or when Daniels was on the top and Harris just ran and speared his legs (felt botched) , or Skipper taking a long time before he walked the cage (although the result more than made up for the time it took for everyone to get into postion).

Truly awesome and the 2nd best TNA match ever behind Unbreakable.

Michelle McCool defeated Natalya Neidhart to win the WWE Divas Championship (4:43)
McCool made Neidhart submit with The Anklelock.
This match was for the vacant Divas Title.
¾*
Did they really need another title? Let alone another women's title?

World Champion CM Punk and Batista fought to a No Contest (11:05)
During the match, Kane came down and attacked both men.
***1/4
Great job by both guys here. The finish left a lot to be desired but it is what it is.

John Bradshaw Layfield defeated John Cena in a New York City Parking Lot Brawl (15:12)
JBL pinned Cena after throwing him through a windshield.
**
Match was both fun and stupid.

Triple H defeated Edge to retain the WWE Championship (16:46)
Triple H pinned Edge after a Pedigree.
During the match, Alicia Fox and Vickie Guerrero interfered.
***
I felt these 2 could hit **** if they were both on their games, maybe the next encounter will connect stronger.

Probably the worst WWE PPV so far this year. Nothing overly bad or anything but nothing that stands out.

TNA Victory Road 2008 LIVE Review

I'm going to review this a little differently since I was there live.

Camera side of the arena had virtually no one. I kept waiting for it to get a little more full but it never happened. My friend (who had never really seen TNA) kind of started getting on me about the small arena not filling up. Pretty much all weekend he was ragging on TNA (but not in a mean spirited way). Keep this in mind for later…

Before the show they announce the Spanish announcers (Hector gets a nice pop) and the regular play by play guys. JB is out next and he plays around with the crowd for a bit. He brings out ODB and she signs autographs and what have you. JB does his thing about loud fans getting to go backstage. During this a cute girl in front of me got on her chair and started getting loud. When JB went to our section to see who was rowdy she flashed him (I assume it was just bra). JB said nothing…thus confirming his homosexuality…

JB then brought out a special guest…Kevin Nash! I got to say…Nash looked wasted. He kind of staggers down to the ring in sandals with a beer as my friend and I are about to ROFL. JB ask him who’s winning the main event. Nash says Joe isn’t talking to him, but Booker told him he’s bringing the gold home (nice pop for that). Nash then starts to walk away, then goes back to JB, points at Tenay and West and says, “There’s the American announce table…” and walks away. Say hi to Hall in rehab for me Kev!

Star Spangled Banner is next. Willie Nelson’s daughter was the performer and OH MY GOD SHE WAS MIND NUMBINGLY AWFUL! She had this atrociously nasal voice that will keep me awake at night. This isn’t just one person’s opinion either. People were looking around thinking this was a “Jillian Hall” joke or something. When they realized it wasn’t they stared at each other in shock. Someone actually screamed, “You suck!” at her. Another man behind us said the same thing. I can’t describe how bad she was.

Show begins and my friend turns to me and says, “This place is too small for opening fireworks.” Seconds later, the opening pyro shakes us to our very souls. LOL at
BG James hosting the opening or whatever the Hell he was doing. My friend is an attitude era mark so he got a good laugh.

Team TNA (Curryman/Sabin/Shelley) vs. Team Japan (Milano Collection AT/Yoshino/Puma) vs. Team International (Williams/Koslov/Dux) vs. Team Mexico (Ultimo Guerrero/Bucanero/Averno) in a 12 Man Elimination Tag Match
We knew that the opening match would be the 12 man match because the flags were on the turnbuckles (We’re college graduates…YAY!). Needless to say this match blew my fucking mind. I’m glad to see that it wasn’t just the mark in me thinking this was awesome. Fastest 25 minutes I’ve ever been apart of. TNA gave them the time to shine and they came through. Curryman is over like Rover in Houston. This felt a lot like the main events of ROH Supercard of Honor shows. Total spotfest and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My TNA MOTY so far, although Team TNA winning guarantees another winner in UX.
Rating: ****1/4

Gail Kim vs. Angelina Love
This was OK for 6 minutes. Nice turnbuckle Figure 4 from Gail where she remains horizontal throughout. Velvet Sky is smokin’ and Hurricane is a lucky bastard. A tad disappointing overall as Gail wins with a neckbreaker.
Rating: *1/2
Sonjay Dutt vs. Jay Lethal
This was exactly what I thought it would be for 9 minutes. There was an annoying asshole behind me who kept saying that Lethal wasn’t Macho man. When he screamed, “SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM!” I’ll admit I chuckled, but seriously…stop trying to get yourself over and shut the fuck up. Dutt is a pretty good heel btw. I liked the Low-Ki-jump-in-the-ring-and-land-next-to-him-then-kick-him spot. I thought Val was turning on Lethal when she kept distracting him from winning. I guess they’ll save that for the next match or whatever. Dutt wins with a rollup.
Rating: **1/2

LAX vs. Beer Money Inc. for the TNA Tag Team Titles
I liked the pre-match promo from BM INC. When Strom said he couldn’t wait to get out of Houston I applauded (I hear ya James…I hear ya…). When their music hit they got a pretty good ovation (at least from my section…I wasn’t paying attention to the others). Standard tag match here. I feel they could do a lot better if they played some house shows together and got a little more chemistry, but it’s understandable that this is what we got. I kind of wanted to see Hernandez do his dive, but then I realized the fans were out there and that might not be the best idea. Like I said though, solid stuff as LAX retain with the Doomsday Gringo Killa.
Rating: **1/4

Taylor Wilde vs. Awesome Kong for the TNA Knockouts Title.
My friend doesn’t get the appeal in Kong. When the crowd started chanting for her, he asked why they would want her on TV over a hot chick. Worst match of the night here. Nothing offensively bad, but not great or anything. I promise this is the last time I bitch about a fan right here, but there was this kid behind me who kept chanting “You’re gonna go in a Houston ambulance (to the tune of, “You’re gonna get your Fucking head kicked in”) for quite a while, then when Wilde was walking to the back and Saeed attacked her, his dad said, “Just like 9/11, no one saw it coming. (because the character is of Middle Eastern decent) and then the kid said the 9/11 thing again. Stupid douche bag rednecks. Anyway, rant over. Wilde wins with a rollup. Didn’t expect to see Abyss coming down. Man did the crowd want Abyss vs. Kong.
Rating: *1/4

Kaz vs. Naruki Doi vs. Volador Jr. vs. Daivari in an Ultimate X match.
I had fun with this. I’m glad Doi was in it instead of Milano. Started off a little slow, but It eventually got underway. I’ll just skip to one of the best spots I’ve seen in TNA in a long time. I don’t even need to mention which spot but yes the Kaz legdrop. Holy shit indeed. At first I thought he was going to do the Low Ki double stomp, but then I thought that’d be too dangerous so I then assumed he would do the Daniels leap of faith to get the X. Let’s call it somewhere in the middle. That literally had me jumping out of my seat. I don’t even think the crowd was that pissed when Volador won initially due to the shock of the last spot, although they weren’t too happy during the trophy presentation.
Rating: ***1/4

Styles/Christian/Rhyno vs. Angle/Team 3D in a Full Metal Mayhem match.
Yeah like there was anyway FCA or Tables match was winning. They didn’t show us the voting results live but we all figured it out when they wheeled out tables and ladders during the X Cup trophy presentation / match hype video package. I was a little upset I didn’t get to see Kurt rise from the ground in his entrance. When Brother Ray came to the ring, he took a beer from a fan, drank some, and then threw it onto the crowd. That’s just awesome. The match itself was spot happy but in a good fun way. I loved AJ’s leaping ladder spot. When the entrances were taking place my friend pointed out that the Ultimate X pillars were still there. We thought nothing of it until Christian scaled one and jumped off. Towards the end it seemed Rhino and Christian had disappeared. I kept waiting to see them again, but never did. I figured Angle would get his win back over AJ here and he did with the Angle Slam off the ladder through the table. Not as good as the opening match but not far behind.
Rating: ****

Samoa Joe vs. Booker T
I’m glad this got the in ring introduction because it helped make the match feel grand. The crowd was about 90-10 in favor of Booker. I’m a little surprised at that because at Vengeance last year Booker got barely a reaction, but here he’s treated as a God. I was one of the few who was cheering Joe. My friend went with Booker about halfway into the match to let me fend for myself. I’m not a vocal guy at shows but I was cheering Joe on hard here. Whenever Joe looked in our direction I always made sure to applaud him. I don’t think this would have been nearly as good without the crowd, which bumped it up from average to pretty good. Plus, Joe killin bitches is always fun. The ending really confused me live. I thought the match was still going on until I heard Booker’s music at the end. I totally forgot Sting was gonna be there, but when he showed up even some Joe marks turned on the champ and went with Sting. I’ll really have to see how this came across on TV and how it’ll play out over the next few weeks. When Booker’s music hit at the end and the crowd started chanting “bullshit,” I decided to get out of there. This was officially a No Contest.
Rating: ***1/4

Final Thoughts:
Definitely a fun show to be apart of, even though most people say Vengeance sucked last year and I went there and had fun too. Even my friend who had never really seen TNA said it was great, and he doesn’t really like wrestling anymore. We talked about the show quite a bit on the ride home and it may the drive seem shorter as a result. When the matches were good, they were really good, but a lot of the undercard is mediocre. Find a way to see the opener and FMM match as quick as possible.

Night of Champions 2008 Review

Can the WWE's hot streak of good PPV's continue?

The Miz and John Morrison defeated Finlay and Hornswoggle to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship (8:46)
Morrison pinned Hornswoggle after a throwing him off the top rope
**
This was better than I thought it was going to be. That shows just how awesome Miz and Morrison are.

Matt Hardy defeated Chavo Guerrero (w/Bam Neely) to retain the WWE United States Championship (9:21)
Hardy pinned Guerrero after the Twist of Fate.
**1/4
Generic Smackdown math.

Mark Henry defeated Kane and The Big Show to win the ECW Championship (8:17)
Henry pinned Kane after the Splash.
*
So awful when Mark Henry was in control. Once it became Kane vs. Show it got better but that's not saying much. I was shocked to see Henry win a "world" title.

Ted Dibiase Jr. and Cody Rhodes defeated Hardcore Holly to win the World Tag Team Championship (1:30)
Dibiase pinned Holly after the Million Dollar Dream Leg Sweep.
Rhodes turned on Holly to align himself with Dibiase.
DUD
Almost how I predicted but no Harry Smith. This was more of an angle advancer than an actual match.

Kofi Kingston defeated Chris Jericho (w/Lance Cade) to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship (10:59)
Kingston pinned Jericho after the the Trouble in Paradise
Shawn Michaels interfered on behalf on Kingston.
***
I was kind od suprised that they gave Kofi gold already.

Mickie James defeated Katie Lea (w/Paul Burchill) to retain the WWE Women’s Championship (7:16)
Mickie pinned Lea after the Mickie-T
*1/4
Katie Lea does not impress me so far. They were so awkward together.

Edge defeated Batista to retain the World Heavyweight Championship (16:49)
Edge pinned Batista after hitting him with the belt.
During the match, Vickie Guerrero appointed Chavo Guerrero the Referee.
***3/4
Their best match no doubt. They had me believing that Batista had a shot.

Triple H defeated John Cena to retain the WWE Championship (19:37)
Triple H pinned Cena after the Pedigree.
****
This was suprisingly awesome. I'd go as far as to say that this was better than their Wrestlemania match together.

~So now Smackdown has both World titles? I don't see that lasting. This PPV was salvaged by the last 2 matches. I'd say the streak is barely alive by the skin f their teeth. Hopefully they put together a better card for Great American Bash.

Night of Champions Predictions

WWE Title
HHH (C) vs. John Cena
The 2 title matches are very hard to pick now that we know about what happened at the draft. If these 4 would have stayed where they were, I'd pick the world champions to retain across the board. I either have to pick HHH and Batista to win or Cena and Edge to win (by my logic of each show having a specific champion, but who knows?). I like Edge's chances the best so I'll pick him to retain and Cena to win and take the belt to Raw.
Winner: Cena

World Title
Edge (C) vs. Batista
See WWE title match thoughts...
Winner: Edge

ECW Title
Kane (C) vs. Big Show vs. Mark Henry
The only reason Henry is in this match is to take the pinfall. I'll say Show takes the title and sets up a 1 on 1 match vs.Kane next month.
Winner: Big Show

US Title
Matt Hardy (C) vs. Chavo Guerrero
Chavo just seems to be a challenger for the sake of being there. Hardy retains.
Winner: Hardy

IC Title
Chris Jericho (C) vs. ???
Y2J was supposed to face Shawn Michaels here but HBK is "injured." So apparently there will be another challenger. I'll say it's Punk (just because he has nothing else to do) and Y2J gets the win. It may still be HBK but Jericho goes over none the less.
Winner: Jericho

WWE Tag Titles
Miz & Morrison (C) vs. Finlay & Hornswoggle
I pray to God that one of the most entertaining WWE teams in years holds on to the titles here. I don't think WWE has the guts to put another title on a midget.
Winners: Miz & Morrison

World Tag Titles
Rhodes & Holly (C) vs. Dibiase Jr. & ???
Dibiase's partner here should be Harry Smith and I expect Rhodes to turn on Holly to form a 2nd generation group with the other 2. I'm probably way off and Holly & Rhodes continue their deathgrip on the titles, but I'll go with the former.
Winners: Dibiase & ??? (Smith)

Women's Title
Mickie (C) vs. Katie Lea
This is tough. Mickie hasn't really done much with the title so I think the new girl takes over.
Winner: Katie Lea

Divas Title
Natalyia vs. ???
Not sure if this is officially taking place on this show, but If it does, I say it's against Michelle McCool and McCool wins.
Winner: McCool

John Cena defeated John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL) in a First Blood match (14:30)

Also better than I thought it would be. I hope this rivalry is over though.

Beth Phoenix defeated Melina in an "I Quit" match (9:14)

Orton failed to answer the ten-count after Triple H hit him with a sledgehammer.
During the match, Orton legitimately broke his collarbone.

Edge won the match by retrieving the belt suspended above the ring.
Per the pre-match stipulation, Undertaker was forced to leave WWE.

I don't love this match like most do. It jsut felt like big spots that we've all seen before and you could see them coming a mile away. I mean, most matches like this you can see the spots coming, but not this obvious.

~ Another solid show but probably the weakest PPV of the year.

WWE Judgment Day Preview

WWE Title Match (Steel Cage)
HHH (C) vs. Randy Orton
A lot of matches on this card are hard to predict. This is one of them. Just because I see HHH's reign lasting more than a month, I'll take him.
Winner: HHH

World Heavyweight Title
Edge vs. Undertaker
I'm not sure why they took the title off of Taker. Maybe to get him more title reigns? I don't know, I'll pick him anyway.
Winner: Undertaker

WWE Tag Team Titles
Miz & Morrison (C) vs. CM Punk & Kane
I originally picked Punk and Kane to win the titles, but I think Morrison and Miz will retain by DQ or shenanigans.
Winners: Miz & Morrison

WWE Women's Title
Mickie James (C) vs. Melina vs. Beth Phoenix
Mickie pins Melina. Nuff said.
Winner: James

Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho
Hopefully this is almost as good as their Mania XIX match. Too close to call, so I'll pick Shawn because he always wins these matches.
Winner: HBK

John Cena vs. JBL
JBL is worthless, Cena hasn't won in a while on PPV, Cena goes over.
Winner: Cena

Big SHow vs. Mark Henry
Apparently this has been added to the show...I'm not sure why...Since Henry only wins squashes, I'll go with Show.
Winner: Big Show

Backlash 2008 Review

The end of an era?

Matt Hardy defeated Montel Vontavious Porter to win the WWE United States Championship.
Hardy pinned Porter after a Twist of Fate.
***
Good enough for what it was. I see a rematch at Judgment Day.

Kane defeated Chavo Guerrero (w/Bam Neely) to retain the ECW Championship.
Kane pinned Guerrero after a chokeslam.
*1/2
Really slow and methodical. Once Chavo hurt Kane's leg on Smackdown I knew it was going to be like this.

Big Show defeated The Great Khali
Big Show pinned Khali after a chokeslam.
*
Better than I thought it would be I guess.

Shawn Michaels defeated Batista (w/Chris Jericho as Special Guest Referee)
Michaels pinned Batista after Sweet Chin Music.
***
This was fun but I think they could have done a little better.

Beth Phoenix, Melina, Jillian Hall, Layla, Victoria and Natalya defeated Mickie James, Maria, Ashley, Michelle McCool, Cherry and Kelly Kelly in a 12-Diva Tag Team match
Phoenix pinned Ashley after a fisherman suplex.
*1/2
Wasn't expecting much from this and my that rating, I got it.

The Undertaker defeated Edge to retain the World Heavyweight Championship
Undertaker forced Edge to submit with the gogoplata.
****
I actually liked this more than their Mania match.

Triple H defeated Randy Orton (c), John Cena, and John "Bradshaw" Layfield in a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match to win the WWE Championship
Cena forced Layfield to submit with the STFU.
Orton pinned Cena after a punt to the head.
Triple H pinned Orton after a Pedigree to win the title.
***3/4
This match was also better than their Mania match. I thought The "Era of Orton" would last a little bit longer, but what ya gonna do?

~Overall this was the worst PPV of the year for WWE. That being said it was still pretty solid.

Backlash Predictions

World Title Match
Undertaker (C) vs. Edge
Backlash always has rematches from Mania and this one is no different. They had a good match last PPV so I hope they can do it again. I think Taker wins becuase he didn't have the long title reign last year and I think he'll get it this year.
Winner: Undertaker

WWE Title Match
Randy Orton (C) vs. JBL vs. John Cena vs. HHH
I don't know why but I see Orton as a log term champion. I mean at least until Summerslam. Maybe even Wrestlemania 25. Thus, he goes over here.
Winner: Randy Orton

ECW Title Match
Kane (C) vs. Chavo Guerrero
I'm not looking forward to this match. It has clash of styles written all over it. I say that Kane retains and moves on to another challenger after Chavo.
Winner: Kane

Batista vs. Shawn Michaels
The feud has actually been built up rather well in my opinion. I think Michaels will motivate Batista to a good match. This seems like a coinflip, and since Michaels always seems to win those matches...
Winner: Shawn Michaels

Big Show vs. Great Khali
Ugh. Could be a WMOTYC when it's all said and through. Big Show needs the win for his push.
Winner: Big Show

US Title Match
MVP (C) vs. Matt Hardy
Should open the show. If this would have happened at Mania, I'd pick Matt to win. MVP has had the title for almost a year...but I say he goes the full year and loses it next month to Matt in maybe a gimmick match.
Winner: MVP

Mickie James, Ashley, Maria, Michelle McCool, Cherry, and Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix, Jillian Hall, Melina, Layla, Victoria, and Natalya Neidhart
CM Punk and Regal don't get a rematch but these talentless "wrestlers" do? I call bullshit. I'll go with the heel team because Beth needs a pin to look strong without the title. She then gets a rematch at Mickie next month.

Wrestlemania 24 Review

John "Bradshaw" Layfield defeated Finlay (w/Hornswoggle) in a Belfast Brawl
JBL pinned Finlay after a Clothesline from Hell.
**1/2
This was what it was...a hardcore match.

CM Punk defeated Shelton Benjamin, Chris Jericho, Carlito, Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP), Mr. Kennedy and John Morrison in a Money in the Bank ladder match
Punk won by climbing the ladder and taking possession of the briefcase hanging above the ring.
During the match, Matt Hardy returned to action and knocked MVP off a ladder with a Twist of Fate.
****
Nice to see Punk get a push. I hope this works out for him.

Batista defeated Umaga
Batista pinned Umaga after a Batista Bomb.
*1/4
Pretty dissapointing.
Kane defeated Chavo Guerrero to win the ECW Championship (0:09)[40]
Kane pinned Guerrero after a Chokeslam.

Shawn Michaels defeated Ric Flair[41]
Michaels pinned Flair after executing Sweet Chin Music twice.[41]
Per the pre-match stipulation, Flair was forced to retire.[41]
****1/2
Not a lot I can say about this match that hasn't been said or wn't be said. Hard to rate it so I'll give it the same rating I gave the Kobashi return match from past December. Just a joy to watch.

Beth Phoenix and Melina (w/Santino Marella) defeated Maria and Ashley in a Playboy BunnyMania Lumberjill match[42]
Phoenix pinned Maria after a Fisherman suplex.
Snoop Dogg served as the Master of Ceremonies for the match.[25]
Candice Michelle was originally scheduled to be Maria's partner, but suffered a legit clavicle injury and was replaced by Ashley.
Lumberjills: Cherry, Eve Torres, Michelle McCool, Victoria, Mickie James, Jillian Hall, Katie Lea Burchill, Kelly Kelly, Layla and Maryse.

Not as bad as I thought it would be.

Randy Orton defeated Triple H and John Cena in a Triple Threat match to retain the WWE Championship[43]
Orton pinned Cena after a Pedigree from Triple H.[43]
***1/2
I was shocked to see Orton win.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. defeated The Big Show in a No Disqualification match via knockout[8]
Mayweather knocked out Big Show after hitting him with brass knuckles.[44]
**1/2
Also not that bad. Not anything I'll remember but still entertaining.

The Undertaker defeated Edge to win the World Heavyweight Championship
Undertaker forced Edge to submit with the Gogoplata.
***3/4
Great way to close out the show. The first handgul of minutes kind of killed it a bit though

~ Overall a great Mania, especially considering I wasn't looking forward to it like I usually do. Can't wait for next year in Houston.

Wrestlemania 24 Predictions

WWE Title
Randy Orton (c) vs. HHH vs. John Cena
This will likely be the main event, and because of that, it would appear that a face will go over. Cena is leaving to do a movie until May, so that leaves HHH as the new champ by pinning Orton.
Winner: HHH
Rating Prediction: ***1/2 - ****

World Title
Edge (c) vs. The Undertaker
With this little of build up, I can't see Edge being the guy to end the streak. I was originally going to say Taker wins via DQ to keep the streak and Edge keeps the title, but I've thought about it and changed my mind since Taker was injured last year and didn't get his long reign.
Winner: Undertaker
Rating Prediction: ***1/4 - ***3/4

Floyd Mayweather vs. Big Show
This will probably be awful with a ton of stalling. I see either Mayweather winning or Mayweather knocking Big Show out and Show then falls on Mayweather for the pin. I'm sure Floyd wants to go over here as most celebrities do.
Winner: Floyd Mayweather
Rating Prediction: *1/2 - **

Career Threatening Match
Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels
This is pretty much set in stone when it comes to the outcome. The real question is, how good will it be? Neither man is in their prime, but I think they could make tihs a great moment.
Winner: Shawn Michaels
Rating Prediction: ***1/2 - ****

Raw vs. Smackdown
Umaga vs. Batista
This was more or less they had nothing to do with Batista. I see him going over here.
Winner: Batista
Rating Prediction: **1/4 - **3/4

Money in the Bank
Shelton Benjamin vs. CM Punk vs. MVP vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. John Morrison vs.Carlito vs. Chris Jericho
When Hardy was in this, it seemed like a lock he would get the briefcase and walk away Mr. MITB. Now with his suspension, the winner is up in the air. I'm gonna go with someone that no one is picking.
Winner: Chris Jericho
Rating Prediction: ***3/4 - ****1/4

Belfast Brawl
JBL vs. Finlay
Could be solid. I see both guys and Hornswoggle bleeding in this match with Finlay and Hornswoggle celebrating in the end.
Winner: Finlay
Rating Prediction: **1/2 - ***

Bunnymania
Ashley and Maria vs. Beth Phoenix and Melina
Any chance of this match being passable was thrown out the window when Candice was injured and replaced with Ashley, who is one of the worst wrestlers the WWE has. Hopefully it's short.
Winners: Maria and Ashley
Rating Prediction: 1/4* - 3/4*

24 Man Battle Royale
This will be on the preshow. A face will win and the only face that makes since is Kane.
Winner: Kane
Rating Prediction: None

ECW Title
Chavo (c) vs. Kane
Kane wins and ECW goes in a new direction.
Winner: Kane
Rating Prediction: *1/4 - *3/4

Shark Boy pinned Devon after Ray (accidentally) and Curry Man hit the 3D on Devon.

Yao out for year

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3265631

So this is why people drink...

I have yet to talk about the Rockets on this blog. I've wanted to but I usually forget. I have followed nearly all of their games this year and this seems like a cruel joke. It's like it set up perfectly. They win 12 IN A ROW, and then their best player randomly injured himself and is gone. I didn't even know he was hurt! In the last game, sure he sucked, but I just chalked it up to one of those games, ya know? I allowed my pessimistic self to start believing in the team I thought was dead. I thought, "Hey, the Giants won the Superbowl out of no where, why can't the Rockets?" Little did I know that once those words ran through my mind, Yao's leg was destined to snap.

Wrestlemania Card Prediction

World Title
Edge (C) vs. Undertaker
This one is set in stone. The rest is where it gets tricky. I've been doing well in my predictions as of late, so I'll try this card on for size.

WWE Title
Orton (C) vs. HHH vs. Cena
I get the feeling Cena will be added sometime soon. I'd be suprised to see a Mania main event without him in it.

Money in the Bank
Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. CM Punk vs. Shelton Benjiman vs. Umaga vs. Batista
Mostly just threw some guys who had nothing better to do in here. I know Batista sticks out (Umaga too) but I needed a Smackdown guy and Batista is left out in the cold with the current rivalries. Unless he faces Big Show with Maryweather as Special Ref/Enforcer, this is all I could find Big Dave.

US Title
MVP (C) vs. Matt Hardy
A lot of these write themselves. Here is one of them. MVP finally loses the US strap.

Bullrope Match
JBL vs. Jericho
These guys are still feuding, so they'll have a blowoff match here. It'll probably be a gimmick, so there you go.

Career Threatening Match
HBK vs. Flair
Flair's last match will hopefully be a good one.

Finlay vs. Vince
Not sure if it's for custody Hornswoggle (can't believe I typed that, damn you Vince) but this is what the feud is leading to I'm sure.

Big Show vs. Floyd Mayweather (Boxing Match)
It can't be a wrestling match and Big Show has been training as a boxer. That being said, Mayweather will knock kim out in a minute.

No Way Out Predictons

ECW Title
Chavo Guerrero (c) vs CM Punk
This'll probably open the show. I remember when Chavo was just a lameduck feud until Shelton Benjamen was ready for Punk. The question is where does Punk go from here? Does he win it back and with another generic heel (or hopefully Shelton) or does he lose and then go into the Money in the Bank match at Mania, followed by getting drafted to another brand? If he does lose and then gets drafted, who challenges Chavo? I'm going back and forth on this one, but I'm gonna go with Chavo cheatin to win. I really have no confidence in that pick but whatever.
Winner: Chavo

Career Threatening Match
Ric Flair vs. Mr. Kennedy
No way Flair loses at a random show like this.
Winner: Flair

World Heavyweight Title
Edge (c) vs. Mysterio
Rey's injured, bet the house on Edge.
Winner: Edge

Smackdown Elimination Chamber
Undertaker vs. Batista vs. Big Daddy V vs. Khali vs. MVP vs. Finlay
Talk about shit. There's really only two logical choices here. Batista and Taker. I've seen plenty of people take Batista and that really suprises me. Batista and Edge had a feud that went on all summer last year. There's no way WWE will have them face off at Mania. Taker vs. Edge has been set in stone for over a year. I don't see them changing that.
Winner: Undertaker

Raw Elimination Chamber
Hardy vs. HHH vs. HBK vs. Umaga vs. JBL vs. Y2J
A lot of initials in this match. Although the depth of this Chamber is greater, there are still only two logical choices here, HHH and Hardy. I see them putting Hardy in the MITB ladder match at Mania and having him win it. Thus the winner will unfortunatley be...
Winner: HHH

WWE Title
Randy Orton (c) vs. John Cena
When this match was signed, I originally picked Cena so WWE can go with the money match against HHH. However, I feel that now they want Randy Orton to be apart of Mania somehow, so we'll get Orton retaining via screwjob to set up HHH vs. Cena vs. Orton for the title.
Winner: Randy Orton
